Business Interchange

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) and Lifelong Learning UK are working together to help teachers, tutors and trainers promoting automotive skills in further education (FE) keep their vocational skills up to date to best meet the needs of the employers and learners they serve.

Through Business Interchange – a programme for England, designed by Lifelong Learning UK to help bring business and further education together - IMI will help match candidates to suitable businesses, allowing learning and skills providers to build their expertise and facilitating stronger links between businesses and local further education providers.

By offering direct guidance and support to learning and skills providers, Lifelong Learning UK and IMI will support the use of structured work placements for tutors in the automotive sector, along with parallel exchanges which also allow industry experts to give time to local colleges and learning providers.

The partnership will encourage:

• New placement opportunities which are able to flexibly meet the needs of different employers and circumstances;
• Opportunities for automotive businesses and learning and skills providers to exchange information and work together to improve learning delivery in the future;
• Practical ways for staff in the automotive learning and skills sector to share their vocational skills and experience with counterparts in their own institution and the wider industry.
