STANDARDS AND QUALIFICATIONS

The IMI is pleased to confirm that the new motor vehicle vocational training programme aimed at 14-16 year olds will be piloted from September 2012 for a period of two years.

AutoStart Update

The IMI would like to announce the introduction of a new qualification to the AutoStart Programme:

• EAL Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Technology - Qualification Number 500/7595/0.

This qualification, which features on the Department for Education (DfE) 2014 Key Stage 4 Performance Tables, is an additional qualification to those already outlined as suitable for the AutoStart Programme. The qualification consists of 3 mandatory generic engineering based units and the choice of 3 optional units from a bank of specialised engineering units. However in order to fit in with the AutoStart programme the 3 optional units have been prescribed below as they must be focused on motor vehicle maintenance and repair:

Motor vehicle maintenance safety practices
Motor vehicle maintenance techniques
Motor vehicle maintenance planning

The other qualifications that have been outlined as suitable for the AutoStart programme can be downloaded below:

• City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Vehicle Fitting Principles - Qualification Number - 600/1448/9

• City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles - Qualification Number - 600/1177/4

• IMI Awards Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Inspection - Qualification Number - 501/1213/2

There has been a fantastic response to the AutoStart programme so far from partnerships who wish to use the current qualifications listed above and with the introduction of the EAL Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Technology the programme will be opened up to an even wider audience.

AutoStart will launch with the first cohort of learners in September 2012. So for all those who wish to get involved please register your interest ahead of September 2012 by completing the expression of interest from, which can be downloaded below, and return it to laurab@motor.org.uk.

AutoStart Expression of Interest Form

*Please note that the expression of interest form is intended to assist the IMI in outlining the number of learners anticipated to start on programme to help with forward planning.

Work Experience Tool Kit

As part of the AutoStart Programme the IMI will provide resources to assist with work experience. We are re-developing our current work experience resources to provide work experience organisers, employers and students with relevant and up-to-date guidance to support the work experience process.  We are bringing together best practice from previous automotive work experience guides to produce 3 short easy to use guides, one for organisers, one for employers and one for students. These new resources will cover the whole of the UK and can be used for work experience students on any programme of any age at any level.

To make sure that the resources are as beneficial as possible the IMI is asking for feedback on the first drafts, which can be downloaded below:

*Please note that the documents above are in draft format at present and once finalised will be branded  and put into a new template with graphics to enhance the look of the resources.

If you would like to feedback on the resources then please send your comments to beverleyl@motor.org.uk by the end of July 2012.
