Demand is high for technicians with experience of working on air conditioning components and systems. The IMI Level 3 Diploma in Automotive Air Conditioning and Climate Control provides the opportunity for vehicle technicians to train and up-skill. It is designed to evolve according to forthcoming European Union F Gas regulations (due in to be finalised in 2007/08). The new EU legislation is likely to impose the requirement for a minimum qualification for all refrigerant handlers. The Diploma’s standalone Refrigerant Handling Unit will fulfil this requirement for technicians recovering or charging refrigerant to automotive systems.
This qualification also provides access to the IMI's Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) scheme, which contains an air conditioning unit. ATA is part of the Public Available Standard for Good Garages, which forms part of BSI's Kitemark scheme.
The qualification contains 3 mandatory units:
K/500/3266 Refrigerant Handling
M/500/3267 Mobile Air Conditioning Principles
T/500/3268 Advanced Diagnostics for Mobile Air Conditioning and Climate Control Systems
They are assessed via IMI set practical assessments and online tests.
