IMI Continuing Professional Development
The IMI is committed to raising the recognition, status and employability of its members. One of the major objectives is to prove that our members are competent to work in today’s motor industry.
The IMI has introduced CPD to encourage you to maintain and improve your skills and ability, with formal recognition from the IMI. CPD gives you formal recognition of your professional development, which may be going unnoticed at present.
With CPD you can keep up-to-date, plan your development and have all your learning recorded by the IMI. Members are able to request a Personal Development Record, which may be useful for annual appraisals or supporting job applications.
We are also providing opportunities for development through regional Member Association events and other IMI sponsored activities – these are advertised in Motor Industry magazine and on these web pages.

Start your Personal Development Record now
1 You need to be a current member of the IMI.
2 You should have a CPD review date, this is available from the Membership Team on 01992 511521.
3 To qualify for a Certificate of CPD Achievement, you only need to complete 2 days of CPD every 2 years.
Units for measuring CPD are equal to quarter days, which equate to learning of a minimum of one and half-hours. To qualify, a unit may not be less than this in duration, however, unstructured activities which are shorter than this may be logged and the log submitted as a total.
4 You will be sent a sheet of identifying vouchers for submitting evidence of structured activity that you complete, or you can download these from this web page. These may be photocopied and used when the originals run out. For IMI CPD events, simply sign the attendance register and your Personal Development Record will be updated automatically. Other forms of documentary evidence for structured activity may take the form of a certificate or a provider’s training record. All evidence will need to be submitted to the IMI for validation and entry onto your Personal Development Record.
5 We advise you to submit your evidence to the Membership Team on an on-going basis, as soon as any CPD activity has been completed.
6 After your CPD review date, on completion of a minimum of 2 days of CPD, you will be issued with a Certificate of CPD Achievement.
7 Your updated Personal Development Record can be issued at any time, which is available through the Membership Team.
If you wish to commence recording your CPD immediately, you can do so by contacting the Membership Team on 01992 511521, or download the vouchers from this web page (above).
