Hybrid vehicle for Grantham students

Motor vehicle students at Grantham College are set to learn more about green vehicles after a recent purchase by the institution, it has emerged.

According to the Grantham Journal, the college has bought the Honda Civic IMA, a hybrid vehicle powered using a combination of petrol and electricity, in a bid to train its pupils in how to deal with environmentally-friendly vehicles.

Gary Hewardine, centre co-ordinator, told the publication that the purchase was exciting and owed a lot to an Energy Technologies Teaching Equipment Grant from the East Midlands Development Agency.

"Without a doubt, this is the way forward for the motor industry - a unit on hybrid vehicle technology will soon form part of the NVQs that we offer," said Mr Hewardine.

In related news, New Scientist has revealed that Rotterdam staged the Formula Zero event this weekend, which intended to become the zero-emissions equivalent of Formula 1.
