Ford Blue Oval Scholarships coming to 12 UK universities

Beginning with the 2012 academic year, 12 universities across the UK are to receive Ford Blue Oval Scholarships.

Aimed at training up the next-generation of engineers, automotive innovators and scientists, the 100 such scholarships are being awarded to British institutes later this year.

The successful universities stretch the entire breadth of the UK, with East Anglia, Loughborough, Surrey, Bradford, Cardiff, Imperial College London and Nottingham among the venues to be offering the Ford programme.

Joe Greenwell, chairman of Ford of Britain, acknowledged: "Ford is encouraging students to choose courses which deliver the highest quality science and technology skills which are fundamental to our future industrial base."

Universities minister David Willetts was also pleased with the announcement, believing that pushing for university-industry collaboration "is vital to the growth of our economy".

Details of the Ford Blue Oval Scholarships come soon after the American vehicle maker stated that it is hoping to alter its operations to embrace greener manufacturing strategies.
