Drivers warned about threat of heavy snow showers

The Met Office has detailed to motorists in the UK the severity of the latest cold snap which is heading towards the country.

Already, drivers in Cumbria have had to change their technique while behind the wheel, in order to deal with hazards due to temperatures dropping to as low as -9.4 degrees C.

However, the Met Office has warned that snow showers are expected to grip parts of the eastern coastline of the UK today (February 3rd) and tomorrow.

Looking further into the weekend, an Atlantic front from the west is predicted to bring even more disruption, including some areas witnessing snow between five and ten centimetres deep.

Paul Gundersen, deputy chief forecaster at the Met Office, advised: "With this risk of snow and ice over the next few days it is important people stay up to date with our weather forecasts and warnings for the latest information."

The Highways Agency has also warned drivers that they should treat severe frost and ice on a road as just as much of a hazard as snow-covered routes.ADNFCR-290-ID-801283875-ADNFCR
